What happened to the joy, the silliness, the human-ness?
This universe is ours for the taking — it’s a miracle for our amusement and delight. Yes, we must optimize, but in service of play. Of people. Of the human experience.
The most loving thing we can do is to move with velocity. That’s not robotic efficiency, that’s just common sense. If you love something, you should want it to work well.
Of course some decisions need to happen slowly. These are irreversible decisions — like getting a tattoo, merging an organization, changing a core mission, or firing a founder.
But most decisions need to happen much, much faster. Not because we need to hit a metric, but because we are devoted to each other.
Despite the best efforts of weirdos like me, people spend far too much time thinking about the quality of their decisions and being afraid of making the wrong decisions. They don’t think about the importance of trying things — lots of things, and quickly.
To fix this, I attempted to create an “operating system” to help organizations make faster decisions. It’s geared towards non-profits, I think you can apply it to any business.
The more decisions you make, the more quickly you can fix bad ones. And, as long as your decisions are pointed in the right direction, you can lead your organization to success.
Our company (Amino) uses this operating system to improve the quantity, speed, and consistency of our decisions.
When things are working well, these decisions are made almost instinctually. People end up with a highly refined gut sense for what needs to be done. Leaders are free to dream their biggest dreams, knowing they have a team to back them up. More velocity. Less mediocrity.
This is Fast Decisions.
Enjoy,
